Senior Java Software Engineer - Automatic Train Supervision (ATS)

About the role

A railway company is looking for a dedicated Software Engineer (ATS) to join its engineering team. You will help design, develop and integrate software components for Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) and Traffic Management Systems (TMS), working across the full software development lifecycle: from subsystem concepts and specifications to object-oriented coding, testing and integration in safety-critical railway environments.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to overall ATS subsystem concepts and architectural design
• Write specifications for software modules and system interfaces and take part in reviews of ATS project documentation
• Develop high-quality software algorithms and modules for ATS using object-oriented programming (Java)
• Test software modules, analyse test results and investigate and resolve defect reports from the testing department
• Take part in laboratory tests and integration work for ATS subsystems
• Support end-to-end project execution for successful ATS delivery

Required profile

• Degree or technical education in Computer Science, Software Engineering or an equivalent field
• Background in the railway domain; experience in signalling is a distinct advantage
• Familiarity with TMS and ATS is an advantage
• Fluent spoken and written English; French or German is an advantage
• Analytical, problem-solving and team-oriented skills

Required skills

• Hands-on experience in object-oriented software development, specifically in Java
• Solid understanding of Linux and Windows environments
• Strong advantage: familiarity with V-model development and safety-critical standards such as EN 50128 and SIL standards
