Community-Based Protection Officer – Moldova

About the role

The Community-Based Protection Officer will work alongside UNHCR in Moldova to empower local communities to lead protection services for displaced persons. Based in Chișinău, the role involves mentoring, training and providing technical advice to Community Service Centres, Refugee Councils and refugee‑led organisations, including in the Transnistrian region.

Key responsibilities

• Strengthen community structures that identify protection risks and deliver support.
• Guide the transition of Community Service Centres to local public authorities.
• Mentor and build capacity of Refugee Councils and refugee‑led organisations.
• Develop and maintain referral pathways that remain functional during emergencies.
• Coordinate with protection and operations colleagues and ensure conflict‑sensitive approaches in Transnistria.

Required profile

• Experience working in humanitarian protection or community‑based programmes.
• Ability to work in multicultural environments and engage with both displaced and host communities.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills.
• Flexibility to travel across Moldova, including field missions to Transnistria.
