Principal DevOps Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal DevOps Engineer to lead the design and implementation of our infrastructure and reliability architecture. You will work closely with Enterprise Architecture and SRE teams to translate strategic direction into practical, scalable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve the target infrastructure and reliability architecture across AWS, Terraform, and GitHub Actions.
• Consolidate existing architectural decisions into a coherent, maintainable state.
• Design pragmatic modernisation strategies for legacy systems, balancing business value, risk, cost, and effort.
• Assess systems and recommend incremental modernisation, alignment, temporary retention, or replacement.
• Establish transition patterns that enable teams to modernise without large‑scale rewrites.
• Provide default architecture and infrastructure patterns for new modules.
• Identify architectural gaps, risks, and cross‑system dependencies.
• Guide decisions on service‑to‑service communication, API exposure, routing, and gateway strategy.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience at a principal or lead level in DevOps or SRE.
• Strong ability to work between Enterprise Architecture and engineering teams.
• Track record of challenging decisions, delivering proofs of concept, and defining technical direction.
• Experience modernising complex, micro‑frontend and BFF environments.
