iDEA Project Engineer

About the role

The iDEA Project Engineer will coordinate and support the execution of iDEA projects in robotics, automation, maintenance, digital twin, vision systems and EOL systems across EU & Africa plants. The role focuses on deploying vision and AI solutions, ensuring they meet Lear’s Industry 4.0 strategy and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Create process standards, guidelines, work instructions and training for deployed solutions.
• Design and install fixtures, hardware, controls, network and automation integration for vision systems.
• Serve as the first point of contact for plant teams during deployment and coordinate on‑site testing and trials.
• Ensure compliance with Lear EHS standards and local regulations throughout projects.
• Perform technical studies, document feasibility analyses and prepare deployment documentation.
• Provide technical training to key users on software, interfaces and maintenance routines.

Required profile

• University degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Automation Engineering or a comparable discipline.
• 3‑5 years of experience in manufacturing, automation, machine‑vision or robotics engineering.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.

Required skills

• Industrial cameras (Cognex, Keyence) and vision system optics, lighting, image acquisition and quality optimization.
• Automation and controls: PLCs, HMIs, sensors, actuators, I/O wiring, functional testing, safety systems (IEC, LOTO, ATEX/CompEx).
• Industrial networking: TCP/IP, IP addressing, VLAN, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, troubleshooting communication between PLCs, HMIs, cameras and servers.
• Programming and AI: Python, OpenCV, TensorFlow/PyTorch, vision system scripting, SQL databases, API integration.
• 3D model interpretation and GD&T knowledge.
