Military Officer (S2) – OSCE International Mission

About the role

The OSCE is seeking a qualified Military Member (S2) to support arms‑control, cease‑fire monitoring and peace‑keeping operations in an international field mission. The role requires a senior officer who can operate in challenging environments, liaise with governmental and military authorities, and provide clear, concise analysis and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor cease‑fire violations and support arms‑control initiatives.
• Conduct negotiations and maintain liaison with national and military authorities.
• Compile, analyse and brief political‑military information for senior decision‑makers.
• Draft and present documents, reports and situation briefings in English and Russian.
• Operate 4‑wheel‑drive vehicles and perform duties in physically demanding conditions.
• Integrate gender perspectives into mission tasks and promote cultural sensitivity.

Required profile

• Officer or Warrant Officer training, or a university degree in a relevant technical field.
• Minimum rank of Lieutenant Colonel (Major may be accepted based on experience), active or reserve list.
• At least 6 years of professional experience in arms control, cease‑fire monitoring, peace‑keeping or related military affairs.
• Professional fluency, oral and written, in English and Russian.
• Excellent physical condition and willingness to work extra hours in limited‑infrastructure settings.
• Valid category B and C driving licences and ability to drive manual‑transmission vehicles.
• Demonstrated gender awareness and ability to work impartially with diverse teams.
