Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

About the role

As the Chief Technology Officer at Toptal, you will lead the product and engineering organization, embedding AI at the core of every solution. You will own the company’s technical architecture and drive an AI‑first strategy that powers the platform’s modular business logic.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the technical vision, ensuring AI is integrated across all product lines.
• Design, build, and maintain the AI architecture, including the development and fine‑tuning of foundation models.
• Lead hands‑on engineering efforts, participating in design reviews and code contributions.
• Collaborate with Product to create modular interfaces that expose core business logic.
• Plan and manage resourcing, headcount, and hiring of high‑performing engineering teams.
• Establish best practices for agentic engineering to boost team productivity.
• Coach engineers on AI advancements and showcase new capabilities to the executive team.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale engineering organizations, preferably in a remote environment.
• Deep expertise in AI, foundation models, and building AI‑first architectures.
• Hands‑on technical background with a builder‑architect mindset.
• Strong hiring instincts and ability to attract and develop A‑players.
